Want to know where to sell things online? I’ve got you covered!
Are you wondering how to sell stuff online? One of the easiest ways to earn extra money is by selling clutter from your home! I love cleaning out closets and clutter and selling it all for some fun spending money. Today I’m sharing a few websites to help you know where to sell things online, so that you can make some big money!
I am a member of online affiliate programs. I may receive compensation for purchases made through links on this post.
Why Sell Online?
Personally, I try to sell a few things online every month. I don’t make a lot of money doing this, but I do make a little bit, and I am a firm believer that every little penny matters.
I’m convinced that EVERYONE can find at least a few items to sell (yes! even you!). Try to spend a few hours this week cleaning out your closets, looking under the bed, searching through your garage.
While you are doing this look for items that haven’t been used in years (or even months?). There is no use in hoarding something if it’s not getting much use. If you need more ideas check out my article, 10 Household Items You Could Sell Right Now To Make Money.
I love clearing out the clutter AND getting to make a little extra cash on the side…..being able to do it ALL online makes it EVEN better (hello, not leaving your house and getting to stay in PJs, sign me up!).
Best Places To Sell Clothing and Accessories
Clothing and accessories are the items I sell most often. Here are some websites for selling your gently used clothing and accessories.
In my experience you won’t earn a lot of money selling on Thredup, but it is definitely the least time consuming! This is the place that I sell a lot of my clothes and my kids clothes, mostly because of the convenience!
All you do is request a free bag to be sent to you, fill it full of clothes, and send it back, easy peasy! Thredup will do all the sorting, picture taking, selling and shipping your items. If you are looking for somewhere to sell that will require as little effort as possible, this is a good option for you!
They are a picky about what they accept (which is really nice as a buyer), so make sure you clean your clothing well before sending it in.
Poshmark is one of the best places for selling high end clothing and accessories. You can easily upload a picture of the items you want to sell onto the user friendly app, set your price and then watch as your junk turns into treasure! Keep in mind that Poshmark will take a small fee from each sale.
You can also use the Mercari app to sell clothing (along with almost anything else you own!). Mercari is a similar platform to Poshmark.
You will upload pictures of the item you want to sell, fill out a description and set a price. Once your item sells, ship it to the buyer. You will be paid once your item arrives.
I have learned a lot about Mercari from Nika over at Debt Free Gonna Be. I recommend checking out her blog and Instagram account to learn more!
Best Places To Sell Electronics
Your old electronics can be a great sell! Trying selling your video games, phones, and computers on one of these websites.
Sell your gently used electronics easily on Swappa! This is a peer to peer selling website and a great way to buy or sell your used phones, laptops, video games, smart watches and more!
Your device must be in good, working condition to sell on Swappa. All you have to do is select the item you want to sell on the Swappa website, fill in a few details, upload some pictures and set your price. Once your electronic sells, just stick it in the mail to send to your buyer!
Gazelle is an even easier option to sell your used electronics, because they do most of the work for you!
All you have to do is choose a phone to sell and then check the Gazelle website to find the amount they would offer you for that device. If you agree to the amount offered just send your phone to Gazelle and they will do the rest! You will get paid after your phone sells. Yay! So easy!!
Best Places To Sell Collectors Items
If you have any vintage items around your home, make sure to sell them. There is a great market for collectors items.
Ebay is another selling favorite! This is one of the best websites for selling your collectors items. But, you can also make some money selling all of your home goods, including electronics, clothing and more!
I recommend spending some time researching on Ebay before you start selling items. The research is important to find the right price point for the things you are trying to sell.
Sometimes it takes a little adjusting with the price to find the right fit, but the more you sell the easier it is to find that perfect price point.
Another great website for selling collectors items is Etsy. There is a big market on Etsy for all things vintage. All Etsy requires is that the vintage item be at least 20 years old.
You can also use Etsy for selling handmade items. So, if you enjoy crafting, consider making a few crafts and selling them!
One of my favorite ways to sell my clutter is to sell it locally. This cuts out the need for shipping charges and boxing things up. Instead, just arrange to meet the buyer somewhere in town to exchange the item and get paid! I also love that you don’t have to pay any sellers fees when selling this way!
If you are looking for a quick sell try Facebook Marketplace. It is my very VERY favorite place to sell.
My favorite thing about selling household clutter on Facebook is that if it is priced right, the items will sell immediately. If something you list on Facebook doesn’t get multiple inquiries quickly, it is a sure sign it was priced to high.
I see the most success selling on Facebook when I sell larger household items. Things like furniture, baby items and lawn items are always a favorite.
You can also try to sell locally using Craigslist. I’ll admit, this isn’t my favorite platform, but I know many people who use it and love it. It’s a very basic and straightforward website, but sometime that can be best!
Remember NOT to give up on an item if it doesn’t sell immediately. All that means is that you will need to make some changes; such as adjusting the price, taking new pictures, or trying a different website.
Also, try a few different websites before giving up. Different websites tap into different markets. Be patient with selling. It is a learning process that becomes easier over time. But, it is worth it if you are wanting to earn a little extra cash.
