How to make soft, flour tortillas at home.
- 5 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 cups boiling water
In a bowl, stir together the flour, salt and baking powder.
With a pastry cutter, cut in the shortening.
Add boiling water and mix together well.
Knead dough for a few minutes and then separate it into 12 equally sized balls.
Roll each ball out until thin and flat.
Fry tortilla in a hot frying pan for 1-2 minutes, until it's just starting to brown.
Flip over and fry the other side for 1 minute.
